I do remember the exact moment when I decided to go vegan. This moment changed my life. It might sound extreme but ever since then it felt like my life suddenly had a purpose again. It was just when I realized that we (humans) have a choice. No one forces us to use animals for food or clothing or anything else. As we don’t rely on animal products we can just stop using them. A crazy idea, isn’t it?
But there is more to this. Veganism isn’t about restriction. If so this would be a pretty boring story and I would understand people not being interested in veganism. It is about what you gain when you choose a life that does as little harm to living beings as possible. This life is not filled with excuses, but with the willingness to change to a better and to grow as a person. It is to be open to the world and open to yourself, accepting your flaws and failures, never giving up, seeing the good in everything and knowing that you always do the best you can to be the best version of yourself.
So as you see it is not just avoiding animal products. It is about living life to the fullest by making conscious decisions. Enjoying every moment of life and be happy because you deserve it. Realizing that every being on earth deserves to be free, happy and free of pain. This includes humans, animals and yourself as well. For me veganism has always also included being gentle with myself. So being vegan for me is about loving life.
